
Computer Classroom
What has been achieved so far?
- 31 students were sponsored through the Koiyaki Guiding School in the last six years (value:US$58,400)
- We have donated 100+ pairs of binoculars to the Guiding School students to take with them into their new jobs.
- At the Rekero Trust HQ we have built and equipped a modern computer classroom for the local schools and communities. Installed 12 laptops with some having wireless connection to the Internet via a satellite network connection. We believe this is probably the first primary school in Kenya with direct Internet access giving the children incredible access to the technology and knowledge base. We have also employed a full time computer teacher.
- To allow for uninterrupted access to the Internet and to minimise dependence on fossil fuel powered generators we have installed a new inverter system and are looking to raise funds to cover solar panels to further reduce/ eliminate the need for generator support.
- We built the ‘Bwana Phil’ building in 2006/7 – this provides accommodations for up to 18 students and 2 instructors with shower / toilet facilities as well as a kitchen and dining room.
- We have funded over 30 ten day computer courses for various schools and institutions incl. Koiyaki Guide School, Tasaru Girls Rescue Centre, Prescott Guiding school, Aitong Teachers
- Funded two community scouts for the last six years to patrol the Rekero Conservancy.
- Funded a carpenter for the last five years to make / maintain school desks and other repairs within the Trust.
- A new 50,000-litre water tank and guttering system to provide clean drinking water for the children at Ngousani School.
- $720 contribution towards repairing the Ngousani School bore hole pump.
- Ongoing sponsorship of 16 pupils through secondary school.
- Over $6,000 worth of schoolbooks, stationary, pens, pencils, and sports equipment purchased and delivered to 3 local schools.
- Supply of 125 metal-framed heavy-duty desks with hard wood tops for Ngousani School.
- Supply of 60 metal-framed heavy-duty desks with hard wood tops for Ole Sere school
- A complete security fence built around the Aitong School.
- Continued sponsorship of an additional teacher at Aitong Primary School.
